Dress Style Guide

The Empire Line - Is a very Elegant style and ideal if you do not want a figure hugging dress. The Skirt starts below the bust line and is narrower than the A-Line or Princess Lines. It flatters most heights and body shapes and works especially best on slim figures and small bust sizes as it creates an illusion of cleavage and hides a thicker waist line.

If you have an hour glass figure you may look out of proportion due to your waist being hidden. It can however help make shorter people look taller but, watch of you have a very large bust!

The A-Line/Princess Line - The A-line dresses are cut near to the waist and then fall away from the body. Being an extremely versatile shape the style can hide any bits you do not like as it is not figure hugging and flares out from the waist to give a long and flattering silhouette.

It flatters and looks great on those with a fuller figure, as well as on the short waisted and petite woman, as it gives the impression of more height.

The Column - A very contemporary design, sophisticated and simple thanks' to its slim and fitted style, which looks fabulous with dramatic jewellery.

The bias or diagonal cut of the dress works well with this dress and it is very figure hugging, so it would look best on a slim woman of any height. It shows off good shoulders and nice arms but it is not good for those with a big bust or broad hips.

The Mermaid/Fishtail - This is very much like the 'Column' but easier to walk in and is even more figure hugging. The 'Mermaid style' flares out at the knew towards the hem and is specifically designed to show of curves. The style is very glamorous and if extra fabric is added the back where it flares out, it is then known as the fishtail.

The shape is quite versatile as the silhouette it creates means it it is ideal to bare your arms as jackets, boleros and straps look excellent with them. However the shape does not work so well with pear shape figures.

The Ball Gown - A style that suits a wide range of figures, from the tall and slim to those with a curvier type body who would benefit from the dresses natural or dropped waist line.

If you are quite hippy or pear shaped figure a full skirt can help disguise this. Take care though, if you are very short or petite, you may well be overwhelmed by a ball gown style.
